(in conjunction with the FAB, Purina and Your Cat magazine)
Top ten finalist in 2004, and now joint runners up and highly commended for 2005 - Robert and Rose are over the moon having been placed so well in such a competitive competition.
They sincerely thank all those customers who kindly took the time and thought to nominate CATZ for the competition for without their initial support we would not have had a chance, and the judges commented that the customer nominations for CATZ were commendable.
Cattery of the Year 2005 Awards

....Winning Smiles Cattery of the Year 2005 awards were presented at the Supreme Cat Show in November. The winners and the runners-up enjoyed lunch with FAB staff and Your Cat editor, Sue Parslow. Pictured from, left to right, are: author Roger Tabor who presented the award, FAB Chief Executive, Claire Bessant; Elaine Culf, owner of winning cattery, Breighton Cats Lodge; Gill Waldron, FAB Cattery expert; John Culf; Rose and Robert Cookes of the 2005 runner up, Catz Cattery and Sue Parslow. The Cattery of the Year competition which was run in 2004 and 2005 proved enormously popular with both catteries and cat owners but we have decided to give everyone a rest for 2006 and do it again in 2007. | |||
| We were grateful for the support which we recieved for these projects from Purina Pro Plan and Your Cat magazine. We shall be working with them in different areas during the next 12 months. | |||
A copy of one of the letters of nomination is included for you to share!

Dear Sir or Madam,
BOARDING CATTERY OF THE YEAR NOMINATION
We would like to nominate: Catz Cattery, Eastcote Hall Farm, Barston Lane, Hampton in Arden, Solihull, West Midlands, B92 0HR.
In our opinion we viewed other catteries in the area, and they did not come up to our expectations.
We then viewed Catz Cattery on the internet and it looked to be what we preferred. We called in to view on spec and found it better than we had hoped. Robert and Rose Cookes met us and gladly showed us round the units, which were extremely clean, roomy, warm and comfortable.
We noticed from recent years that it is the only cattery we have found that records daily on the cats and any special needs or requirements are highlighted. We were so relieved to have found somewhere we could leave our cats with peace of mind. Being mindful of this busy cattery we endeavour to book our cats in early to avoid disappointment both for ourselves and our cats.
Since our first visit almost 12 months ago our cats have boarded 7 times without any problems from our point of view anyway. We guess the best judges are our cats so we will leave the rest of this nomination to them.
Hello, our names are Chas and Mason we are beautiful Birman Cats although we say it ourselves!!
I’m the eldest so I’ll do the talking, but I know Mason feels the same way and if he didn't I’d son say do (cause I’m really protective of him). The following is our own diary of events, you see we have feelings too and we think it’s important that humans listen to us!!!!!!
OUR DIARY
SCENE 1 – still reeling from the visit to the vets for our vaccinations top up (thanks a lot mom & dad)
Noticed holiday brochures on the coffee table – envisaged another crummy cattery. Tried to push them away hoping mom would forget about them. Jumped on her lap for a bit of fuss, did’t work, she put her glasses on and started browsing through them. Went in to kitchen and meowed like mad to get her attention, did’t work straight away so hid some food under the carpet.
SCENE 2 – spotted new brochure for ‘catz cattery’. Mom & Dad had a good chat about it – both looked very excited and talked about it all afternoon. It’s ok for them they’re going on their holidays. Wish we could stay here, wish we had a say in all this.
SCENE 3 – 2 weeks went by, Mom & Dad started giving us extra fuss (can’t get round us like that).
You go on your holiday and leave us, see if we care. We’ll just be really naughty on your return – we’ve got a few things up our sleeve. Knew something was up our boxes were brought into the kitchen. We both made a dash for the catflap, how could they do it – yes you guessed it they had locked them up.
SCENE 4 – In the car we went. We usually hate that ride but this time it wasn't too bad at all. Journey was quicker than usual and we didn't feel sick once.
When we got to the cattery a nice man and woman called Robert & Rose greeted us. They seemed nice enough (cats pick up very quickly on unpleasant people you know).
Tried really hard to scowl, but couldn't keep it up so started purring instead.
We were taken to our hotel room, glad we were allowed to be together. Must say we were most impressed. No sharing with other felines but able to see them looking so chilled out. Didn't even notice Mom & Dad had gone.
SCENE 5 – Our hotel room had scratch posts, ladders to the bedroom and lots of room to play. Great views, could see the ducks wandering about. Couldn't believe how quiet it was. No howling from other cats ‘pleasant karma’ all round.
Have to admit, Mom & Dad had got it right this time. We had lots of fuss, we were groomed and cooed at loads. It was just like being at home really. Mind you, thought it strange as to why every time we used our litter tray it was closely inspected and a report written out (they don’t do that at home).
SCENE 6 – Last day of our first stay at Catz. Saw the car pull up and Mom & Dad got out carrying our boxes. Who looked more chilled from their holiday – the cats or the humans we thought? Who looked more bright eyed and bushy tailed? The cats of course.
Well that was our account of the first time at Catz. We’ve been back a few times since and don’t mind it one bit. It’s about time we got a say in the decision making.
Don’t get us wrong we love our home but Mom & Dad need a break from time to time.
Now they’ve found us a good cattery, they seem more relaxed when they come to collect us.
Well that’s all from us, love Chas & Mason Taylor xxxxxxxxx
